Archaeology and research

The 2016 Hilbre excavation

In July and August 2016, archaeologists and Friends volunteers returned to a site first explored ten years earlier beside the Bird Observatory.

Read the excavation diary, discover finds spanning prehistory to the modern era and explore why the date of a possible ancient building remains an open question.

Newsletters

Stories and updates from Hilbre

Friends of Hilbre newsletters bring together project news, event reports, photographs and stories from the islands.

Past issues retain their publication dates so historical reports are not mistaken for current visitor or event information.
