Crossing route
From Dee Lane through the island chain
Use this page to understand the general route. Use WalkHilbre separately to plan the crossing window for both directions.
Live crossing information
Plan both directions
Plan the outward and return crossing before you leave.
Follow the recognised route from West Kirby via Little Eye.
Tides are only one part of planning a responsible visit.
Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Stage one
Leave from Dee Lane
Begin beside West Kirby Marine Lake at the Dee Lane slipway. Do not set out from Hoylake or try to create a shorter direct route.
Confirm the route before losing a reliable data connection.
Stage two
Pass Little Eye
Little Eye is the first island and a key route landmark. Sand and channels around it can vary, so the displayed route is guidance rather than turn-by-turn navigation.
Stage three
Continue through Middle Eye
The route becomes rockier and more uneven. Allow time for slower walkers and avoid rushing over slippery surfaces.
Stage four
Reach Hilbre and preserve the return margin
The outward journey is only half the plan. Keep the return window, changing weather and your group’s pace in mind throughout the visit.
