These answers provide general guidance. Tide, weather and ground conditions change, so use the current visitor tools before every trip.
When can I walk to Hilbre?
Use the embedded WalkHilbre crossing planner to check both the outward and return windows. Do not infer a crossing window from an Open Day’s building hours.
Where do I start?
The recognised route starts from Dee Lane in West Kirby and proceeds via Little Eye and Middle Eye. Do not attempt a direct crossing from Hoylake.
Are there toilets, drinking water or a café?
Public information describes composting toilets on the main island. There is no regular drinking water, shop or café, and shelter is limited. Carry what you need.
Can I bring a dog?
Dogs should be kept on a short lead and under close control, particularly around wildlife, other visitors and buildings. Event-specific rules may also apply.
Will I see seals?
Seal sightings are never guaranteed. Observe any wildlife from an appropriate distance and never approach, feed or disturb an animal.
What should I do in an emergency?
Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. The Friends contact form and social media are not monitored as emergency channels.
