Open Days

Step inside Hilbre’s stories

On selected dates, volunteers welcome visitors into buildings that are usually closed and share the natural and human history of the islands.

Before setting out

Event hours are not crossing windows

An Open Day may state when volunteers and buildings are available, but those hours are not themselves crossing advice.

Always use WalkHilbre to plan both directions, check the weather and leave enough time for your walking pace.

What to expect

A volunteer welcome on the island

Activities vary and may include access to the Telegraph Station, the old Lifeboat Station, heritage displays and wildlife information.

Check the latest event information before travelling, as opening times, activities and cancellations may change.

Access

Prepare for the route as well as the event

The crossing and island include sand, mud, rocks and uneven ground. Building thresholds, steps and opening arrangements differ.
