Susan grew up in West Kirby and developed a deep connection with Hilbre. Her father, Professor Craggs, was closely associated with the islands and wrote Hilbre: The Cheshire Island.
Her own research contributed to understanding Hilbre’s medieval history. Friends remembered her as a kind and inclusive person whose enthusiasm helped establish an organisation that continues to care for the islands.
The original notice also recorded Susan at the opening of Hilbre’s composting toilets in 2008 and announced a Friends butterfly-survey project with the local branch of Butterfly Conservation. Those event arrangements are historical and are not current volunteering information.
